Meet our newest friend – the elephant in pants crocheted following the free elephant crochet pattern designed by @rena_toys

An elephant can be the perfect gift for a child. It will make them curious to find out more about the elephants – the largest land animal which communicates through vibrations and they have great memory!

Abbreviations:

  • mr – magic ring
  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • inc – increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
  • dec – decrease (single crochet 2 stitches together)
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • BLO – back loop only
  • [12] – number of stitches you should have at the end of the round/row
  • ( ) * x – repeat whatever is between the brackets the number of times stated

Materials:

  • Yarn: YarnArt Jeans or Alize Cotton Gold (I used gray and light pink colors for the toy, black and white to embroider the face)
  • Crochet: 2 – 2.5 mm, depends on how tight you crochet
  • 10-12 mm safety eyes
  • Sewing needle and scissors
  • Stitch marker
  • Fiberfill

Stuff the bottom of the hand.
If you want to sew the hands to the body, then fold the top of the top flat and make 4-5 sc through both sides.

Shorts:

Start with the legs.
Chain 30, then connect with a sl st to form a circle.
1-3. 30 sc (3 rows)
Cut the yarn on the first piece.
On the second leg don’t cut the yarn.
Connect the second piece with the first one.
Crochet 60 sc for 20 rows.
Fasten off, weave in the end.

Straps:

(make 2 pieces)
Chain 41, then crochet 40 sc starting from the second chain from the hook.
Sew the straps to the pants, creating an “x” on the back.
